Overview
Gengar VMAX Single Strike has decent toughness with 320 HP and no resistance. As expected for Dark Pokemon, Gengar VMAX has Fighting Wekaness so it can be easily OHKO by popular Fighting Pokemon like Rapid Strike Urshifu VMAX. It has high Retreat Cost [3 Energy] so it is not worth using Energy to reatreat. The best way to retreat Gengar VMAX is by using "Switch" Item.
Gengar VMAX both attacks are very strong. The first attack, Panic Fear does 60 damage for each of your opponent's Pokemon V and Pokemon GX in play. Since your opponent can play up to 6 in any combination of Pokemon V and/or Pokemon GX, Panic Fear max damage will be 360. This attack is good against decks that relies on multiple Pokemon V such as Eternatus VMAX or Shadow Rider Calyrex VMAX etc. And, you only need 2 Dark Energy to use this attack. In a way, this attack can limit opponent from setting up a lot of Pokemon V. Otherwise, your opponent's can't stop Gengar VMAX from OHKO their Pokemon.
Gengar VMAX second attack, G-MAX Swallow has very high damage of 250. Even without the help of Trainers, this pure damage can OHKO any Basic Pokemon V. But, Gengar VMAX can't attack during your next turn after using this attack and 3 Dark Energy is required to used this attack. If you want to use G-MAX Swallow during your next turn, you need "Switch" and 1 of your Benched Pokemon with 2 or less Retreat Cost needs to be equipped with "Air Balloon".
Its pre-evloution Gengar V Single Strike has useful attacks. Although Gengar V first attack, Dark Slumber has low damage of 40, the attack can put "Sleep Condition" on your opponent's Pokemon. Pokemon with Sleep Condition can't attack unless your opponent gets head from flipping a coin at the end of the turn. If you are lucky, you might be able to stall your opponents for few turns while you are setting up for Gengar VMAX.
Gengar V second attack, Pain Burst has 190 damage and this damage 2HKO Pokemon VMAX. This attack also inflicts 3 damage counter on Gengar V after you use it. The more you use this attack, the weaker Gengar V becomes and the easier for your opponent to knock out Gengar VMAX. Gengar V both attacks have the same Energy Cost as Gengar VMAX attacks.
Additional Attacker
Umbreon VMAX Single Strike main roles in this deck is to control your opponent's bench. When you evolve Umbreon VMAX you can use its Ability Dark Signal to switch 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokemon with his or her Active Pokemon. In other words, you can use this Ability to knock out weak Pokemon V like Crobat V or low HP Pokemon VMAX or Energy Accelerator like Frosmoth in order to disrupt your opponent strategy and take Prize Cards. Also, Umbreon VMAX can be as a backup attacker since its attack has decent damage.
Energy Setup
Each Houndoom Single Strike let you accelerate Single Strike Energy from your deck to Gengar VMAX or Umbreon VMAX by using its Ability Single Strike Roar. With 3 Houndoom on your bench, you will be able to accelerate 3 Single Strike Energy which is enough for Gengar VMAX attack. 3 Single Strike Energy boost Gengar VMAX damage by 60 and the G-MAX Swallow damage will become 310.
Since Single Strike Energy is a Special Energy, you can only 4 copies in your deck. So, you definitely need Urn of Vitality to recycle those Special Energy for Energy acceleration and increasing damage for other Pokemon.
OHKO
To OHKO your opponent's Pokemon VMAX using G-Max Swallow, you need to use either Leon or Karen's Conviction before you attack. Leon is more consistent at increasing damage [+30 damage] but your Gengar VMAX must have 3 Single Strike Energy to OHKO your opponent's Pokemon VMAX. On the other hand , Karen's Conviction increases damage depending on the number of Prize Cards your opponent has taken [20 damage for each Prize Card]. If your 1 Gengar VMAX got knocked out, you can increase your other Gengar VMAX damage by 60 using Karen's Conviction, You might not need to attach 3 Single Strike Energy to Gengar VMAX to OHKO Pokemon VMAX if you use Karen's Conviction in the late game.
